They Are Tracking You Right Now! Hide Now
Geolocating is the new and highly advanced way of detecting someone’s geographic location using their mobile device signals. This also helps in getting feed of the data used in their various mobile apps that the person is using. Tracking someone using their smartphone signals has become a cake walk now because the map navigation that we use on day to day basis determines the satellite signals using GPS, which are then used by your weather app to determine the local weather conditions in your area using your current location. This exact technology helps other locate you, thus raising privacy concerns for many. The geolocating feature not only allows your tracker to identify your location but they are also able to record the history of your activity on your smartphone. Additionally, this constant tracking can drain your battery thus leaving you with discharged phone at the most crucial time.
But every technology has a flip side and the same goes for geolocating as well. Here are some ways to hide yourself from tracking and prevent any kind of infringement of privacy.
Manipulate GPS Positioning
GPS positioning of your smartphone greatly relies on the satellite signals of the GPS servers and only a high quality GPS system is able to pin point your exact location with an accuracy of 3 meters. This method of tracking down your location has often been ineffective in urban and metropolitan areas, where high rise buildings act as spoilsport in someone’s spy service. Apart from high rise buildings, other scenarios in which GPS signals will be affected include bad weather, clouds, storm, etc.
Cell Tower Locating
The cell tower triangulation technique is successful in measuring your distance from the nearest cell phone tower. This information is further used to calculate your approximate geophysical location. However, this is successful only if your cell phone is successfully picked up by three or more nearby cell phone towers. Location pinpointing using this technique becomes difficult when you are in densely populated area where there are less cell phone towers.
When GPS and cell phone tower fails, Wi-Fi triangulation is another way to determine your geolocation. This technology is successful in measuring your distance from the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot. This is specifically effective in locating your position in a building or in a metropolitan area. Keeping your Wi-Fi off can be the simplest way to avoid getting tracked by someone.
The location service of your cellphone uses a mixture of cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi and even discoverable Bluetooth signal to identify your location. Disabling your location services can block anyone from pulling out information about your whereabouts along with other device activity. However, disabling location services will also disable other features from your phone like find my phone, weather app, emergency services, etc. that can be useful in determining your position at the time of crisis.
While these are inbuilt and rather simple ways of hiding from being tracked, you can always take help of a software or an app to hide yourself from others.
